1998 Annual Report

Harry Pence [pencehe@oneonta.edu], Chair

The charge of the CCCE is, "to seek to publicize and promote the use of computers in chemical education." During the past year, the Committee met twice at the Chemed Biennial, one of these meetings was open and the other was limited to members. The regularly scheduled two issues of the Computers in Chemical Education Newsletter were published during the year. The CCCE has sponsored a number of activities during the year to fulfill its charge.

As is customary, the CCCE sponsored symposia related to computers in chemical education at each national ACS meeting as well as at the BCCE, a total of nine half-day sessions. In addition, the Committee sponsored four workshops at the 1998 Biennial Conference on Chemical Education:

The CCCE sponsored two on-Line Computer Conferences, one for general papers (Jan-May) and the other on the topic of switching students on to science (Sept-Oct). Participation was high in both of these, as it was in the third On-Line Chemistry Course, "Phamaceuticals, Their Discovery, Regulation and Manufacture."
